Let it....

Snow! Er, Ice and Snow!!

This week has been interesting.  Luckily, we have good weathermen, so we knew the storm was coming.  Monday night/Tuesday morning it was raining - complete with thunder, lightening, and howling winds - kinda scary, I know.  Then it turned to sleet/freezing rain.  And it was coming down hard!!  The temperatures also dropped, so the roads froze over.  I got up on time and got ready for work, thinking that there would be nurses that couldn't make it in, and they'd probably need my help.  Marc got up and started watching the news and made the decision that it was way too dangerous for him to try to drive into Dallas, so he drove me in to work and stayed home for the day.  Well, I got to work, and checked in with one of the managers - and we had 100% attendance from our nursing staff!  Everyone made it in!  So, I made it a short day, pretty much took care of what I needed to do and left.  On the fun side, we had some icicles on the house, one of which was HUGE:

Wednesday the roads in Waxahachie were a bit better, I was able to drive myself in, but Marc still stayed home.  It seems that TX DOT was making a big deal of the routes from the Super Bowl Football teams' hotels to the Cowboys stadium, and forgot about all the other people in DFW that just needed to get to work.  So, the roads south of Dallas were still awful, people sliding all over and 18 wheelers jacknifed.  Thursday the roads all over seemed better, so Marc went ahead and made a slow trek in to work.  We started hearing more reports of snow possibilities Thursday night, so we started to get ready.  The forecast was for a light dusting, or 1-3 inches max.  Wrong.  It seems like everywhere got at least 3 inches, shutting down the airports (2 days before the Super Bowl, mind you), and stopping movement in its tracks.
So, just when I figure I'm not going to work (everyone made it in on Tuesday, right??), I get an email from my boss, calling for an all-hands-on-deck, because we're short staffed all over the hospital, not just nursing.  They had to close the cafeteria because the only person able to make it in on time was the manager, and he was the only one to cook meals for the patients!  Luckily, more of the kitchen staff was able to make it in later in the morning, but the cafeteria remained closed all day.  So, I had Marc drive me in again, to help out in our outpatient clinic.  I got there around 10, and luckily we were done at about 3, so I had Marc come pick me up again, and we got to play a little in the snow.  The pond in our neighborhood was starting to freeze over, and Marc and I felt so bad for the ducks we went out to feed them.

The view from our front porch was beautiful!

And the snow by the pond was deep (and undisturbed by the kids in the neighborhood) enough for a snow angel!  Nevermind my hand/foot print in the middle - it's a little hard for prego to get off her back these days!! :)
All in all, it's been a fun week!
